Guidance: Level 4 Tangihanga

The Archbishops’ Guidance for Tangihanga and Funerals at Level 4 provides high level guidance for ministers taking tangihanga during Alert Level 4.

With Government guidelines requiring prompt local burial and only whānau in the same ‘bubble’ or household of the tūpāpaku / deceased able to be part of the funeral service, ministers must be clear on what they can and cannot do, and how they and the whānau pani (the bereaved) can stay safe and supported during COVID-19.

For the Archbishops’ Guidance for Tangihanga and Funerals go to He Puna Mārama.

For shortened forms of the ‘Karakia Tuku – Prayer at Time of Death’ and ‘Karakia Tangihanga – Funeral Service’ go to He Puna Taonga.

“Ka koa te hunga e tangi ana: ka whakamārietia hoki rātau.”

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Matthew 5:4
